*A Justification in Verse for (Potentially) Giving You a Bad Kiss at Midnight

A Justification in Verse for (Potentially) Giving You a Bad Kiss at Midnight
Scott Gibson
(from the 'recyclable language' chapbook. released april 13th by -dead seagull press-)

Yes
my tongue may feel like
an awkward fish in your mouth but
fuck
have you seen those salmon
in spawning season
they don’t have any directions
telling them what stream to go up
they just go on what feels right
But these salmon
although they can’t prove
that they know what they’re doing
giv’er
and some of them
end up on jagged rocks
on the side of Mission Creek
and tonight
I hope those fish
aren’t a metaphor for me
because tonight
I’m hoping that my tongue
will be leaping tonsils and molars
gracefully
like red and green kokanee
conquer currents
to get to somewhere
that feels right

  3. I saw a dead seagull by the side of the road today. I heard that it has been there for days - it reminded me of you - of course I mean that in the best way possible.
